Jubilee is a ritual object created to confront the ethos that we are all born into an infinite cycle of debt to our parents, society, culture, country, etc... Inverting the pyramid into a funnel subverts this most ancient symbol. Rather than reaching to the sky for eternal life, the point drives downwards into the earth, acting instead as a collection point for debts that no longer serve us. Inborn debt is a moral issue, not a financial one. Being born into a world of predefined options gives an illusion of choice. Jubilee suggests liberating ourselves from this cyclical progression by asking for the freedom of self-definition.
